The new "Age old Question"
Traditional vs. Airbrush Make-up?

By Sylvia Farmer

I am often asked if I prefer using the airbrushing method to traditional makeup? My answer?... Yes and No!

Digital photography has become the trend in the wedding industry. Often times with digital photography the picture quality is of the highest resolution, which means even the smallest details, are captured. A digital camera' sees streaking associated with brushes and sponges, which go undetected on "regular" film or to the naked eye… One unique characteristic of the airbrush is that it atomizes foundation into tiny pixels that can be layered over a person's face. With the proper layering technique an absolutely flawless finish can be achieved that can make a persons face young and radiant in appearance. Cakey, heavy feelings of foundation, no more! In fact clients tell me they need to keep checking their faces to see if they have makeup on because it feels so light.

Airbrush Makeup application

Airbrush foundations are sprayed on so thin and even and nothing even touches the face… which is a godsend to those with extremely sensitive skin. Airbrush makeup will be sprayed on in a precise fashion because it normally doesn't 'move' after it has been applied. This is one thing Brides absolutely love on their wedding. The Bride may have to hug and kiss hundreds of people on her wonderful day and the last thing they want is to leave shades of the face on everyone! For those brides who have problems such as heavy acne or scarred skin, the airbrush can provide coverage for any skin type while being extremely hygienic since no part of the airbrush ever touches your skin.

While an airbrush system facilitates in the application of a flawless appearing foundation it can also be used to apply blush, lip shades, and even eyes with the right stencils. I often use it strictly for the sole application of foundations, leaving the rest of the face to the good ol' brushes and gentle hand strokes that come from 'painting on the canvas of the clients face, It is my preference to use both my airbrush tool and regular brushes synergistically to apply the perfect blend of foundation and makeup. Advancements in science and technology have found their way to the makeup artist's life, which offers a beneficial tool, which enhances our lives, and helps YOU be more beautiful!
